Dermal Fillers
Collagen
Collagen is a building block of skin and tissues of the human body. As we age and over time, sun exposure and gravity cause the development of facial lines. These lines serve as markers of age.
Collagen was the first product that was found to be a useful adjunct to the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles. The injectable products of dermal fillers, as they are currently called, serve to “fill out” the deep wrinkles and lines of the face. Collagen has been around for a very long time, over 25 years. It has been used by medical professionals like plastic surgeon, Dr. John Sampson, to improve the appearance of his patients. Though replaced in large part by the newer products, Collagen is still an excellent product for erasing facial lines. Call for your consultation today, so Dr. Sampson can review the “dermal fillers” and assist in choosing the “right” treatment for you.
Restylane®, JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel, JUVÉDERM® Ultra, Perlane®
These products are a group of dermal fillers used to restore volume to an aging face and to resolve facial lines and wrinkles. These products contain Hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring protein in human skin.
These products have many advantages over the injectable as collagen. Restylane® and the products in this group do not require allergy testing, which has a persistent requirement of Bovine collagen, Zyderm®, or Zyplast®. In addition, Restylane and/or JUVÉDERM® and the other products in its class are much more long lasting in effect. Lasting 4-6 months in the nasolabial folds.
They do share many advantages with injectable collagen. The procedure is quick and the discomfort is quite limited. The use of topical anesthesia or local pain medication does well to significantly control pain.
As the various types of dermal fillers have been developed, Dr. Sampson is now able to provide contour to the face by using the fillers and various depth of skin and subcutaneous tissue. In this way, he can improve the flattening of the cheek and sagging of the face that occurs with aging.
Dr. Sampson will spend time with each patient evaluating the face and he will make a recommendation for the type of dermal filler that will produce the desired result. Call his office today.
