Brow Lift Surgery

Brow Lift

The forehead or brow is an important part of the face and is and important place for facial expression. As in all parts of the face, the effect of the sun, aging, smoking, and gravity can produce the appearance of aging. In addition, an overactive muscle in the forehead and brow can produce deep wrinkles that become permanent with time. The solution may be cosmetic surgery in Michigan – specifically, a brow lift procedure to correct sagging of the forehead or low eyebrows.

Choosing Brow/Forehead Lift

A brow lift can reduce the lines to the forehead and brow. The procedure minimizes or eliminates the creases across the forehead, and the “frown lines” above the nose. It is also possible to raise the eyebrows to a more youthful position. This cosmetic surgery procedure is performed at our Michigan surgical suite. Dr. Sampson prefers to use general anesthesia or local with sedation for his brow lift patients. The procedure is often combined with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or with a facelift. It can be performed for both men and women.

Like any surgical procedure, the techniques for brow lift have been modified throughout the years. The procedure called the coronal brow lift involves a large incision across the scalp with exposure of the facial muscles and selective excision of the muscles above the nose. At this point, the procedure has been supplemented by incisions that are more limited across the scalp. The multiple incision technique provides for faster recovery and reduces scarring. These techniques can be combined with the use of an endscope to assist with the surgical procedure. The recommended technique is individualized to the patient’s anatomy and complaints. Adjunctive rejuvenation procedures such as lasers, chemical peels, and BOTOX® Cosmetic can be combined with the operative procedure. The procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours of operative time and is performed in our on-site surgical operating room.

Recovery After Cosmetic Surgery in Michigan

On the day of your cosmetic surgery procedure in Michigan, your head will be loosely wrapped. A small tube may be placed to reduce or drain excess fluid. A post-operative re-check is required the day after surgery.

There will be swelling and numbness wit usually mild discomfort. Postoperative pain medication will be given. The elevation of the head will help to reduce postoperative swelling. There may be associated itching. Sutures are usually removed within 5-7 days. Patients can return to light, normal activity in a few days. But, no heavy lifting or strenuous activity should be done. Return to work is usually possible within 1-2 weeks though facial swelling may persist longer.

Potential Risks and Complications

The risks of brow lift surgery are limited and infrequent. The risks include temporary itching or numbness of the scalp, temporary or permanent nerve or muscle weakness, and alopecia, or loss of hair surrounding incisions.
